What To Look Out For When Looking For Gollege Grants

By: Vanessa Carolin

Are you hunting for college grants for women? It is almost impossible these days to get a well-paying job without a good college education. College is expensive and many of us cannot afford the high tuition fees and therefore require some sort of financial assistance. You have, no doubt, seen many of the advertisements out there offering free college grant money but how do you know which ones are legitimate and which ones are scams? Here are some warning signs to look out for which could indicate the organization you are dealing with is scam.

A fairly common scam these days involves being contacted by someone who claims to be representing a government agency with the offer of free grant money. They will go on to ask you for your bank details to process a fee before you can obtain the money. You should be aware that the government will never contact you with this kind of offer. There are laws designed to prevent this from happening. You should be suspicious of anyone that claims to be from the government with this kind of offer.

You should also be weary of organizations that offer guarantees of grant money or your money back. The truth of the matter is no one can guarantee a grant. These organizations generally attach so many conditions to the refund that very few consumers are ever likely to see their application money refunded.

Be careful of organizations that ask you to attend a free seminar in order to get the information you are looking for on grants. At the seminar, they will give you a guarantee you will receive the grant money but ask you to pay a fee to process your application. As mentioned earlier, you should not have to pay for information that is readily available.

You should be wary of any organization that wants you to pay a fee for grant information or asks for your bank account details. There should never be any fees payable for grant information or applications. A legitimate application process will never involve supplying your bank details. These organizations are blatantly trying to scam you and possibly trying to steal your identity.

Don't trust organizations that claim to be the one and only source of grant information. Grant information is published widely and is readily available for anyone that needs it.

There are legitimate grant agencies out there that can help you with getting college grants. Always be aware that scams do exist and that you should be on the lookout for the signs listed above.
