Matching Colors: A Science that is Well Developed to Help

Interior design, for your own personal home, or for your dollhouse kit can be a matter of color choices. Now you don’t have to be a professional artist to understand color, the basic level of matching colors begins with the color wheel. The basis of the wheel is that some colors are similar to one another, and others have contrast. Opposing colors are the most different and offer attractiveness to the eye called – contrast, colors touching each other are the most similar and can be accent colors that heighten, but don’t distract from the feel. As a first step into the designing realm for yourself, I recommend that you defiantly read up on the color coordination material that is on the internet or any good book, as it will really help your style.

Size: Very Important in Design

Always, always remember that there are different sizing elements in miniatures. The first one is the scale of the furniture, second is the size of the room, and third is the relative size of the furniture as it compares to other pieces of furniture. The first is the miniature scale, and you could really lose some money buying the wrong size. Meaning, you should check your dollhouse scale, if it is quarter inch you need quarter inch furniture. The second is room size: or simply not cramming furniture into the room that will not fit. The actual furniture dimensions should be located at the store or website that you bought it at, simply measure and compare. Finally, relative or comparative size is the size of the furniture in relation to other pieces in the set. Smaller pieces will get less attention than other pieces, and the larger pieces should be the ones that you want everyone to look at.

Rearranging Furniture? Try Some New Strategies

Because a doll's furniture is very light you can easily found the perfect arrangement in a matter of seconds. Here are a couple of placement strategies that may be of benefit to you. As there are so many different ways to layout furniture let us talk about arranging by symmetrical shapes. In the triangle layout you will have three major pieces of furniture and place them at the ends of an imaginary triangle, each of the pieces are turned in and the look is very symmetrical. The second simple design layout is the square, very similar to the triangle except there are four pieces, and they again are placed on the corners of the square. You can also use the square approach with five pieces; just place the extra piece in the middle. Though these are the most used you can have any types, shapes, and patterns that form a symmetrical or aesthetically pleasing layout.

Designing by Mood

Great designers know that in order to have a good layout and design you need to strive for the appropriate mood. A mood is the purpose of the room, the reason that it exists. One example of a mood is the dining room should be a place of meeting, where people can relax and talk to one another. Another example would be a bedroom, which is more personal, intimate, and is directly affected by the personality of the resident. Great dollhouses are no different. To tap into your mood settings, think about the purpose of the room, why it is their, and what designs, colors, furniture, would better suit that mood. As you increase your miniaturist talent with your own dollhouses people will notice the particular moods, and even though they can't quite put there finger on it, they will be impressed.
