By: Articles Publisher

Overview on Essential Oil
Essential oil is concentrated, hydrophobic liquid or ethereal oil that contains volatile aroma compounds and are extracted from plants. This oil got its name due to the fact that it contains distinctive scent, or essence of the plant. Essential oils do not have any specific chemical properties in common apart from spreading characteristic fragrances. Since ages this oil has been majorly used to improve the quality of the skin. Discovered in Egypt this oil is used in aromatherapy skincare and it is highly prized today due to their immediate impact on the spiritual, emotional, and physical levels. Essential oil is quite different from chemicals and synthetic drugs as these are non-toxic and does not cause any harm to the human tissue. This oil is non-toxic as it is naturally extracted from the plants as a hydrophobic liquid containing aromatic compounds.
Uses of Essential Oil
Essential oils are different from perfume or fragrance oils as essential oils are derived from the plants whereas the perfume and fragrance oils are artificially created and contain artificial substances that do not offer the same therapeutic benefits offered by essential oils. Valuable psychological and physical therapeutic benefits of essential oil can be felt due to its aroma and chemical composition. These benefits are achieved by inhalation and by the oil application on the skin. Essential oils are also used in perfumes, soap, cosmetics, incense, domestic cleaning products and for the flavoring of food and drink. Some essential oils have been also used in medicines, as this oil is considered good for the skin treatment and also for the cancer remedies.
Production Process of Essential Oils
Different processes are adopted in the production of essential oils. Distillation process is adopted or the production of lavender, eucalyptus, and peppermint essential oil and in this process plant raw material like bark, roots, seeds, flowers, leaves, or peel is kept over water into a distillation chamber, as the water get heated the steam passes through the plant raw material resulting in the vaporization of the volatile compounds. These vapors condense back into liquid, which is collected in the receiving vessel. Most of the essential oils are produced by this distillation process. Some of the other methods of producing essential oils include solvent extraction, in which oils are produced through cold press technique. This process is adopted due to the fact that chemical components of the plant are delicate and get denatured by the high temperature used in steam distillation.
