By: Andrew Emerson

What About The Panasonic TX-P42V10?

Using the NeoPDP plasma panels makes for a slick, compact design for the Panasonic TC-PV42V10. At the widest area, the screen measures a slight 8. 5 cm, housing a chassis with all of the design features included. The top of the screen only measures 5. 5 cm, making the Panasonic TX-P42V10 one of the sleekest designs yet.

That portion of the design carries the internal speakers, the connection ports, and the processing circuitry. Overall design is crisp, efficient and sleek. A thin, frameless appearance with silver strip accents at the top, and a buffed silver pedestal stand at the bottom. The compact looking 42in plasma screen is also perfect for reduced weight and energy consumption.

A very plentiful options screen shows all the standard viewing modes. You'll find Cinema, Dynamic, Game and Normal there. Also, the Panasonic TX-P42V10 offers up the THX view, for a crisp, sharp picture, great clarity, and conforming to the THX standard. Using the Ethernet port, you can also utilize many networking features, and there are four HDMI ports as well.

There is also a SD card reader for reading multimedia files, tuners for analogue, as well as Freeview and Freesat, and a digital audio output. The remote that comes with the plasma is very neat and organized, for ease of options. Using Freesat, one can easily access free, high definition programs via a satellite service, and the Panasonic TX-P42V10 offers a fantastic display of these for users.

There are two functionalities with the Panasonic TX-P42V10 that are certainly worth mentioning. The Viera Tools and Viera Cast options have buttons to call them up via the remote control. Vieracast allows you to access internet content on your Panasonic TX-P42V10, using broadband internet connection. There have been whispers of more functionality to come, but currently, supported sites in this are Tagesschau, Picasa Web Albums, Youtube, Bloomberg, local weather, and Eurosport.

Many are calling this the best of the "web TV" functions that has been seen to date. Using the media server function, you can also not only access this content, but share with your network, in those formats. There is a great function of the direct playback with AVC-HD using the SD card, and also the DivX files.

Being able to watch videos called up from the network, or any of the sites available is made easier by being able to display them at full screen on the Panasonic TX-P42V10. Naturally, the quality is by and large dependent on the actual video, but this is one really useful option also. For those who are wondering about the gaming capabilities, with very little input lag and the screen being resistant to screen burn, this plasma gets high ratings. Being able to play games, network and display various media from one unit is certainly a benefit.

The Panasonic TX-P42V10 is, overall, a better innovation in HDTV plasma. Offering a great functionality, solid sound and a crisp, sharp picture, it's compact design is sleek, but powerful and loaded with options. The THX mode, the additional ports and other offerings make this a wise choice in plasma screen technology.
